Privacy notice for the Ribbino play test
Last updated: 20 October 2026
In short: the test build of Ribbino sends a record of how you play, and any crashes, to Google Firebase. The record is under a random Tester ID, never your name or email. We use it to tune the game and fix bugs. We delete it by 31 March 2027 at the latest.
Who we are
Studio Shogun LTD makes Ribbino, and controls the data in this notice. Our company number is 12088772, and our registered office is 167-169 Great Portland Street, 5th Floor, London, W1W 5PF, United Kingdom.
To contact us about your data, email hi@ribbino.com.
What this notice covers
This notice covers the private play test of Ribbino in November 2026. Testers get the test build through Google Play testing on Android, or through Apple TestFlight on iPhone. The test is only for adults (18 and over) who agreed to join it.
When the game launches, its full privacy policy replaces this notice.
What we collect
To invite you to the test. We keep your name, the email you gave us for the invite, your phone model and its operating system version. For Android, we also keep the country of your Google Play account. We give your name and email to Google (Android) or Apple (iPhone) so that they can send you the invite.
What the game sends while you play. From the first time you open it, the test build sends this to Google Firebase:
- Each level you play: which level, when you opened, started and finished it, whether you won, and how long it took.
- Every move in that level, in order, with its time and the place on the board where your finger landed.
- The size of the board's cells on your screen.
- Taps that pick no ribbon, zooms and pans of the board, the boosters and hints you use, and the tutorial steps you see.
- The dialogs you see, what you choose in them, and changes to the game's settings.
- When you open the app, and how long it stays open and on a level.
- Your phone's model and operating system version, and the version and build number of the app.
- The time zone of your phone, with the times of these records.
The game sends all of this under a random Tester ID. The app makes this ID on your phone the first time it opens. You can see it in the game's Settings and in the Pause menu. The game also keeps a copy of this record on your phone, which goes when you delete the app. On Android 10 and older, other apps that can read your phone's storage can read this copy.
Your phone's backup can save your Tester ID and your progress in the game. On iPhone, the backup also holds the copy of the record. If you restore the game from a backup, it keeps the same Tester ID.
What Firebase records by itself. Google Analytics for Firebase also records these events:
- The app is opened for the first time, or updated.
- You use the app.
- The app has an error.
- Your phone's operating system is updated.
- On Android, the app's data is cleared, or the app is removed.
With these events, it keeps:
- A random ID that Firebase makes for the app on your phone.
- The version of the app, and the store that it came from.
- The brand, model and type of your phone, its operating system, its language and its screen resolution.
- The country, region and city that it works out from your IP address. Google Analytics does not store the IP address itself.
Crash reports. If the app crashes, or meets an error that it cannot handle, it sends a report to Firebase Crashlytics. The report shows which part of the app's code failed. It also holds your phone's model and operating system, and the phone's state at that time, for example its free memory. It says whether the phone is rooted or jailbroken. It also holds a random Crashlytics ID, the level number and the app version. It can also hold the game's last records before the crash, which carry your Tester ID.
What you send us. We keep the emails you send to hi@ribbino.com, and your answers to the questions at the end of the test.
What the stores show us. On iPhone, TestFlight shows us when you installed the build, how many sessions you had, and its crashes. It also gives us any feedback that you send through TestFlight. On Android, Google Play shows us crash reports from the test, and any feedback that you send through Google Play.
What we do not collect. The game does not collect your name or email, your age, advertising IDs, your precise location, contacts or photos. The test build has no ads and no accounts.
Why we use it
- To see how people play each level, so that each level has the right difficulty.
- To find and fix crashes and other bugs.
- To run the test: to invite you, send you the build, and reply to you.
Our lawful basis
Our lawful basis is your consent (UK GDPR, Article 6(1)(a)). You give it when you agree to join the test.
You can withdraw your consent at any time. Before you delete the app, copy your Tester ID from Settings or the Pause menu. When you delete the app, the game sends nothing more. To have your data deleted, email us that Tester ID. A withdrawal does not affect what we did with your data before it.
Who processes it
- Google runs Firebase (Analytics and Crashlytics) for us, under Google's data processing terms. The data goes from Firebase to Google BigQuery, in Google's EU region, where we study it. Google can process the data in other countries, including the United States, and its terms cover these transfers.
- Google Play and Apple TestFlight handle the invites and the test builds under their own terms and privacy policies.
- Email and messages: Cloudflare routes the email that you send to hi@ribbino.com, and Google Workspace holds it for us. The questions at the end of the test come in a message. Your answers come back through the email or chat app that you use with us.
We do not sell your data. We share it with no one other than the companies named here.
How long we keep it
We keep the test data while we study the results. Then we delete it, by 31 March 2027 at the latest. This covers the game's data in Firebase and BigQuery, your invite details, and your emails and answers.
Firebase Crashlytics keeps crash reports for 90 days. Then it starts to remove them from its systems, its backups included. Google Play and Apple keep their own records under their own terms.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your data
- correct it
- delete it
- limit how we use it
- send it to you in a common format
You can also object to how we use it.
To ask, email hi@ribbino.com with your Tester ID. To find it, open Settings or the Pause menu in the game. A tap on your Tester ID copies it. If you no longer have the app, email us anyway, with your phone model and when you played. We then look for your data. We reply within one month.
Complaints
If you are not happy with how we use your data, please tell us first, so that we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or 0303 123 1113.
